Non Woven Paper Wallpaper

Non woven paper wallpaper is an innovative blend of synthetic and natural fibers that is also used to make gauze, coffee filters and tea bags. The fibers are combined with a binder, reinforced with acrylics and often mixed with additional pigments to ensure opacity. Since the first introduction of nonwoven wallpaper some ten years ago, it has done nothing but gain market share. Since 2007, sales have more than doubled, while sales of plain paper have fallen by 43 percent. Nonwovens are quickly becoming the substrate of choice for every interior designer and wallpaper printer, for at least four reasons.

1. No more mold problems

A general fear of mold-related illness was one of the main reasons wallpaper fell out of favor in the 1990s. Wallpaper itself obviously doesn't cause mold problems, but the nature of the paper substrates manufacturers use means that wallpaper can't breathe, locking the vapors between itself and the wall. However, this is not the case with non-woven wallpaper, which is a breathable material.

2. Ideal for digital wallpaper printing

More and more wallpaper manufacturers are turning to digital printing, and nonwoven is the perfect (and only) substrate. It remains stable in both dry and wet conditions, and when used in combination with Xeikon printing solutions, it is compatible with a unique dry toner that emits no VOCs and is even FDA-approved. Perfect for wallpapering offices and other public areas!

3. Non-woven means tear-resistant

Need we say more? Nonwoven wallpaper is known for its sturdiness, making it durable and not forgetting washable. 4.

4. Easy to apply and remove

A stable substrate also ensures a seamless finish and wallpaper that is both easy to apply and dry to peel. Removing old wallpaper means that the days of steam and scraping are gone. Some types of nonwovens even allow you to remove wallpaper from one wall and apply it to another, all in one piece.

Is non-woven wallpaper the same as vinyl wallpaper?

Nonwoven wallpaper is a blend of natural fibers and vinyl to create a wallpaper that is breathable, flexible and more durable than regular paper-backed wallpaper. You could say it's the next evolution of standard paper-backed, but not all-vinyl.

What is the difference between vinyl wallpaper and paper backed wallpaper?

Vinyl coating protects the pattern and paper from water damage, but you should keep it as dry as possible. Instead of using a paper base, coated fabrics use a fabric base. Unlike vinyl coated wallpaper, coated fabric wallpaper has a design on the coating, not the fabric.

How do I know if the wallpaper is non-woven?

Non-woven wallpaper is also known as "wall-to-wall" wallpaper. Traditional wallpaper applies a paste directly to the back of the wallpaper, which requires more preparation time because you need to wet the paper. However, with non-woven, you need to apply the paste to the wall.
